Zaman Malik's poetry
Accounts beyond words
Whatever I saw
Or occurred to me
Had a fragrance of flowers
Blooming in eyes of generations
Flowing since eternity.
Accounts beyond words,
Dying for others,
Losing in game of love,
And thoughts
Beyond reach of sunshine.
Dear heart! These unwritten accounts
Beyond my muddled words
Forget them not!

Jungle somewhere within me
And I kept walking in the jungle all day
And the evening surrounded me
All day the evening kept walking towards me
And the jungle remained with me
The evening held the jungle in its arms
And I kept walking
The day turned into a jungle
I kept walking
The evening caught fire
The jungle fell somewhere inside me.

Death on white elephant
Do you know not?
Who diminished the enemy pressure?
How brutal hands of air were severed
(That flew my turban away)
Who could spare time?
To bury the dead
Or kiss the living eyes
The flood that came to submerge me
With a wall I build with my flesh and bones
To stop it
The heat of your kitchen and your bed
Remained stable
In the frozen hell
The brook that I started to flow
Who the right over that
Your iron and your

Sweetheart Kabul
If somebody comes to tell
That I am dead
Believe him not
I landed in the hearts of rains,
And winds and darkness incarnate
In horrors of the desolate settlement
Came neither the morning nor the eve
Being on the heels became my synonym
At doorsteps of the ignorant country
I met those who are no more
They were my friends
Those who escaped
Flash before my sight
That thunderous roaring was not the time
But of the pride
The ray changed angle and turned
And pierced into hearts
Nothing is safe anywhere
It is only me, myself
That is everywhere
This boundless is sifting through my fingers
The tight grips are empty though!

For those sent to Siberia
And one evening you will go a way
Not you will go but the route will guide you
A changed sky overcast
And the earth in different complexion
You neither know your destination nor the way
Nor you intend it all
And these strange hosts who had come to collect you
The softness on their harsh faces bewilders you
Even if you ask them where to go
They cannot tell even if they wish
The frozen hell that is your destiny
You are oblivious of the gravity of its loneliness
Even if in a wild dream
The memories of a loved one
Turned into a wish to live
Who knows when will dawn the freedom
Or like an anonymous story of yester evening
Have to get lost buried in the frozen time.

I saw a jungle
I saw a jungle
That seemed as if
All trees therein
Under the strain of fast winds
Had bend on a side
Those bend trees all
Gave the look of a green ocean
On a side of which
Was I with my loneliness
And across that ocean
Over the deck of being
Was a dream unclear.
